Knutsford can boast of over twenty bars/clubs within the
town and the majority are in the town centre. As a youngster
I would often attempt to frequent them all on News Years Eve
but found it impossible. Many serve food and some provide
accommodation. Other's simply provide a warm and relaxing
atmosphere to wind your time away.
The Angel Hotel

The Angel comprises mainly two large rooms, one of which has
a fireplace at the far end and a central column, which partially
divides the room into two. The column houses two fireplaces
serving both sides of the divide. The room on the left is
spacious and has a TV set in one corner. All the walls are
partially panelled with wood and so are some of the pillars.
Photographs and other bric-a-brac decorate the place. There
is a large wood-panelled room upstairs which is used as a
function room.

The
Lord Eldon
27 Tatton Street Knutsford Cheshire WA16 6AD
Telephone: 01565 652261
This inn is about 300 years old. It was originally known as
the Duke Of Wellington until 1829 when the Duke angered the
landlord by passing the Catholic Emancipation Act. As Lord
Eldon had opposed the Act, he was chosen as the Duke s replacement.
Surprisingly when the old sign was taken down for refurbishment
in 1933, the Iron Duke s portrait was found still lurking
on the back under a coat of grime. The current sign is much
more recent.
The first May Queen of Knutsford, Miss Sarah Ann Pollit,
lived here and was crowned in 1864. There are four rooms,
two of which are at the rear and one of these at the back
is at a higher level. The latter room is used for dining.
Lots of brassware, such as pots, plates and other bric-a-brac
are used all over the place in creating a great atmosphere
full of charm and character. Photographs and mirrors also
add the decorative touch.
Food is served throughout the week, but only at lunchtimes.
There is a large smoking area at the back of the inn.
There is an open mic night on Thursdays and live bands most
Saturdays.
